Welcome to the TheDataWeb framework for networking data

Hot Reports and the TheDataWeb framework for data networking* “Moving from data dissemination to tools at the desktop for relevant statistical intelligence for decision-making”

  • Data is dynamically integrated into results that are available on one page. It has the ability to integrate data from disparate systems of an agency or across different agencies. Currently over 50 computer systems and thousands of datasets are accessible.

  • Data can be organized into information, bringing integrated data intelligence to targeted topic or problem areas. Information overload can be avoided and time saved. Scenario or what if analysis is available so that the decision maker can try different assumptions, the result will be displayed in changed maps, time series trend lines, and business graphics. New performance indicators can be quickly developed. Calculators for grant eligibility can be quickly created.

  • Analysts can work faster and produce more value both inside the agency and outside the agency from federal statistical data by using the data framework. A data browser (Data Ferrett) is available to provide one stop searching for analytical data, provide real time data transformations, data integration and simple interactive website or dashboard design.

  • The goal is to provide the analyst the most agile and responsive and relevant system as is possible, enabling them to find product, add value and distribute quickly as decisions and needs require.

  • The same copy of data is used to power different interactive web sites. So, for example different websites using population estimates for per capita estimates of crime will be using the same population denominator as mortality. It provides a framework for making data consistent across different web sites over the web. It gets different organizations on the same page and helps facilitate statistical sharing and collaboration.

  • Costs are reduced as data is administered and maintained one time, while used for many different purposes. Examples of interactive websites that use the same data include: a) economic growth and dislocation b) interaction between crime, housing, education c) evolving performance indicators d) integrated data for custom DOC regions e) program qualification calculators

  • In an era of tight budgets doing more with less is critical. Although designed at the Bureau of the Census, this computer network reduces computer software costs by integrating off the shelf open source and commercial components. The collaboration process is central to keeping costs down and increasing the usefulness of the system. The collaborative development process takes advantage of the unique strengths that the Bureau of the Census has in understanding the obscure data usage rules of disparate official statistical data sets, the understanding of different federal code sets needed to integrate those datasets, and the agency’s unique expertise in handling large scale and complex statistical datasets efficiently.
