1. Ferrett Tabulation Ferrett Tabulation will be repeated in DataFerrett bugs

1.1 Instances
Instances (years) can only be added to the Tabulation in descending order only. There isn't an option to load instances in ascending order. To produce tables and graphs in ascending year order, each data column contributing to the table and graph objects needs to be duplicated by the number of instances used in the reports. (refer to (Document link: Database 'NDN Satellite Projects WDB', View 'By Category', Document 'Indicator006 - Ascending Years for Tables and Graphs Solution') (Subject: Indicator006 - Ascending Years for Tables and Graphs Solution; Database: NDN Satellite Projects WDB; Author: David Gray; Created: 15/11/2007; Doc Ref: DGRY-78Y7F3)

Duplicated data columns add significantly to the effort required to produce the table and graph objects used in the HotReports?.

eg. Indicator 003 Children fully immunised ((Document link: Database 'NDN Satellite Projects WDB', View 'By Category', Document 'VCAMS: Indicator 003 - Children fully immunised') (Subject: VCAMS: Indicator 003 - Children fully immunised; Database: NDN Satellite Projects WDB; Author: David Gray; Created: 07/11/2007; Doc Ref: WRIS-78Q3SK)) http://144.53.218.19 /TheDataWeb_HotReport/servlet/HotReportEngineServlet?reportid=686fdcbef8368eb646299751448f3796&emailname=demo@thedataweb.org&filename=Indicator003.hrml

Indicator 003 HotReport? combines data for four instances (2002 - 2005). The resultant tabulation normally has 49 columns ( 1 classificatory + (Data: 3 items x 3 ages x 4 instances) + (Rankings: 1 item x 3 ages x 4 instances)). To be able to produce tables and graphs in descending year order 157 columns of data are required ( 1 classificatory + ((Data: 3 items x 3 ages x 4 instances) x 4 duplicates) + (Rankings: 1 item x 3 ages x 4 instances)).

Being able to sort instances in ascending as well as descending order would result in considerable time saving preparing tables and graphs for the HotReports?.

Recommendation: High Priority fix required.

1.2 Hiding/Unhiding data columns
Multiple table rows can be hidden or unhidden by selecting the range, then using the menu option: To hide use: Edit/Hide (a 3 mouse click process: select row + Edit + Hide); and to unhide use: Edit/Unhide/Selected rows/columns (a 4 mouse click process: select row + Edit + Unhide + Selected Rows/Columns).

Only single columns can be hidden or unhidden at a time using the same process as above.

Provision of a HotKey? or Button in the Toolbar (or both) would reduce the repetitious mouse clicking required to hide/unhide columns substantially.

eg. For Indicator 003 (the same example as above), just to setup the tabulation for adding the first table to the HotReport? required 144 of the 157 columns to be hidden ie 144 columns x 3 mouse clicks = 432 mouse clicks (+ scrolling the columns across the screen each time to select the next column).

If DataFerrett Tabulation would allow multiple columns to be selected and hidden, only 146 mouse clicks would be required (144 columns + Edit + Hide).

If DataFerrett Tabulation would allow multiple columns to be selected and hidden and sorting instances in ascending order, only 38 mouse clicks would be required (36 columns + Edit + Hide). This would result in a very substantial time saving.

Recommendation: High Priority fix required.

1.3 Adding Tables and Graphs to the Object Palette

If you want to be able to link tables and graphs using controller objects in the HotReports?, all required tables and graphs need to be created in the same DataFerret? Tabulation session ie. if they are not created in the same session, object linking will not work. Objects can only be linked using controller objects (eg Drop-down Listbox) if all of the table and graph objects were created in the same open tabulation session.

If changes are required to any of the table or graph objects in the HotReport?, then all of the table and graph objects need to be recreated. This is very frustrating and time consuming.

It would be nice to be able to add a table or graph to an existing HotReport? Object Palette at any future time and maintain the links between the old and new objects.

Recommendation: High Priority fix required.

1.4 Removing Tables and Graphs from the Object Palette

The ability to delete redundant objects from the Object Palette would be useful.

Recommendation: Low Priority fix required.

1.5 Time Series Graph Error

The Time Series Graph option is not working. A java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException error occurs each time this tool is used.

Recommendation: Requires fixing.

1.6 Graph Tool

1.6.1 General Errors

Change Labels: Labels can be modified in the Graph Tool and are retained when added to the HotReport?. However, when the graph is viewed in the web browser, the labels revert to their default values.

Edit/Reverse Axis: The x-axis labels (and data) can be reversed using the graph Tool menu option: Edit/Reverse Axis. These are retained when added to the HotReport?. However, when the graph is viewed in the web browser, the labels and data revert to their default order.

Edit/Edit Legend: This option sometimes results in a DataFerrett Runtime Error.

Add Annotation: Attempted testing - graph and annotation displays in the HotReport?, but the graph doesn't display in the web browser. May be the result of some other issue ie the additional graph was created in a new session using the existing tabulation file.

It appears that modifications made to the default graph layouts are retained when pasted into the HotReport? from the Object Palette, but revert to the default settings when viewed in the web browser. However, the graph Title is retained.

1.6.2 Line Graph

Settings in Line Graphs are retained when added to HotReports?, but are not applied when the graph is viewed in the Web Browser.

Example 1 - Using a single data row

Under normal conditions using DataFerrett Tabulations and HotReports?, the instances (years) are displayed in descending order

eg. Indicator 002

(Embedded image moved to file: pic14721.jpg)

The graphs can be created with years in ascending order by using Edit/Reverse Axis ...

When pasted into the HotReport?, the years in the graphs appear in ascending order as expected.

(Embedded image moved to file: pic06064.jpg)

... however, when the HotReport? displays in the Web Browser it reverts to descending order.

eg.

(Embedded image moved to file: pic29309.jpg)

The following interim solution was devised ...

Create duplicate columns for each variable (one for each of the years (instances) to be used in the tables and graphs). Hide the instances in each of the duplicate columns so that only the years you wish to use are unhidden in ascending order Create your graph - the years should appear in ascending order Paste onto the HotReport?, Save and view in the Web Browser - the years still appear in ascending order

While this solution is not ideal, it appears to be the only way to display the tables and graphs correctly for multiple years.

Example 2 - Using a multiple data rows

As pasted into the HotReport? (Embedded image moved to file: pic20415.jpg)

As viewed in the Web Browser (Embedded image moved to file: pic17902.jpg) 1.6.3 Vertical Bar Graph

Tested vertical bar graph using multiple data rows resulted in similar errors when viewing the graphs in the web browser

As pasted into the Hot Report

As viewed in the Web Browser

1.6.4 Other Graph Types

Other graph types were not tested.

1.6.5 Additional Client Graph Requirements

The ability to: manage graph axis scales in DataFerrett so that the line variances can be highlighted eg able to have multiple graphs use the same axis scale for comparison. change line/bar colours or use hatchings for black and white presentations. include more than one series on a line graph. deal with 'null' values in graphs and tables, not treat them as zero values. change the bar widths on bar graphs.
