DataFerrett Microdata Data Example Queries

Below please find examples of Microdata queries. More are currently under construction and will be added soon.

link arrowEducational Attainment of the US population

This example uses the Current Population Survey, March Supplement files for 2004. It will depict the income of the population by age and family relationship breakdowns. The variable PERLIS and Poverty Low Income cutoff dollar amount variable (FPOVCUT) are used to determine the poverty status of participants. The Age variable (A_AGE) and Family Relationship (A_FAMREL)and Family income level/low income level (FAMLIS) variables are also used. This .FerretTablulationFile uses variables that are recoded into specific groups.

To view the variables and layout in DataFerrett, you will save this file to the folder TheDataWeb/FerrettTabulationFiles.

  1. To do this Right Click on this link CPS_poverty.ftf;
  2. Then select (browser dependent): Save Target As or Save Link Target As or Save Link As;
  3. Save this file into your C:/TheDataWeb/FerrettTabulationFiles folder;

  4. Make sure to save the file by selecting the Save As Type: (at the bottom of the popup Save window). It should indicate "All Files"

  5. Start DataFerrett,
  6. Select File >
  7. Open >
  8. Select the "CPS_poverty.ftf" file

In DataFerrett the .ftf file will automatically open a Ferrett Tabulation screen. To retrieve the data to replace the (?) Question Marks, select the green Go Get Data button to see the data selected/extracted for this example. You can double click on each variable listed (on the right) to view a description of the variable and their values. You can also add more variables, by going to Step 1 of DataFerrett.
