DataFerrett Applet Installation Instructions
These instructions apply only to the JAVA Applet installation. You may already have a
JAVA applet installed on your computer. Search for a JRE folder with a file 1_4_2_04 version.
If so proceed to the Browser link.
The first step is to
download the JAVA plug-in (5.2 Mb) to run the Applet.
It is recommended that you put this file on your desktop
for easy access. Double click on the desktop icon
and proceed through the install wizard.
NOTE: After installation, before you actually start DataFerrett from the web site link, you will need to restart your computer.
- You will want to have a copy and paste function or be able to save your DataFerrett
session. Set up the Copy, Cut, Paste & Save in DataFerrett which is also called a Windows Policy or Windows Permissions file. This very tiny text file will tell your Windows
that it's ok to copy, cut, paste and save from the DataFerrett applet.
- The Permission file should be put into the Windows folder on your
main computer drive (usually c:). Users will want to make sure that the <.java.policy> file is placed in the
correct location. Find/Save the ".java.policy" file and place it into the following Windows directory depending on your operating system and system setup:
C:\Windows\Profiles\username on multiuser Windows 95 and 98 systems
C:\Windows on single-user Windows 95 and 98 systems
C:\WINNT\Profiles\username on Windows NT, XP
C:\Documents and Settings\username on Windows 2000, XP
- Please RESTART your Computer!
- After restarting your computer, open your Internet Browser and go to
http://www.thedataweb.org/applet.html. Bookmark this page! You will always launch the DataFerrett Applet from this page.
- Once you have installed the DataFerrett, click on the icon that correlates to your
web browser
(Explorer or Netscape). The next screen that comes up will give you a status
bar that shows that the DataFerrett is loading.
Leave this window open at all times while you are in DataFerrett.
If you have received a DataFerrett
on CD click here.
