DataFerrett CD Installation Instructions

PLEASE NOTE: The DataFerrett CD Rom comes with the installation package and users' guide ONLY. It does NOT contain "data." You will access data over your internet connection through the DataFerrett Application (installed onto your computer desktop).

Close your browser before you begin the installation process.

It is suggested that the files be downloaded to your Desktop for easy access. Once the files are done downloading double click on each file to install the necessary components.

The CD will automatically open a menu screen when inserted into your computer.

In the "JAVA Plug-In" area in the bottom right hand corner, Double Click on the "here". Follow the instructions in the wizard to install.

Above the JAVA side of the installation screen will be the section about the Policy File. This very tiny text file will tell your Windows that it's ok to copy, cut, paste and save from the DataFerrett applet. This is also known as a "permission" file. Double click on the "here" and follow the wizard instructions to install.

The left side of the screen has the install of the DataFerrett Tutorial. This multimedia tutorial will go through all the basic functions of the DataFerrett. Speakers are required as the animation's include sound.

Once you are finished with your CD you may pass this on to other users in your group or office.

Please note that the DataFerrett software can be found on this web site or at www.thedataweb.org and will run through a "zip" file type of process.
