First Time DataFerrett Applet Users:

Right-click here for DataFerrett Applet Permissions to Save/Copy/Paste

1.  Launch DataFerrett Applet with Explorer 

2.  Launch DataFerrett Applet with Explorer *

/ /  Launch DataFerrett Applet with Firefox, Netscape or Opera *

IF you start the DataFerrett (from the browser icons above) and get a message that you will "not be able to copy, paste, or save your DataFerrett Sessions":

Right click this link and "Save Target As" to the location indicated below. You will change the "Save as type:" to "All Files" - > change file name to: dot java dot policy (.java.policy)

OR

Find/Save the ".java.policy" file, "SAVE As ALL Files" and place it into one of the following Windows directories (depends on your operating and system setup):

C:\Users\username on Vista systems

C:\Windows\Profiles\username on multiuser Windows 95 and 98 systems

C:\Windows on single-user Windows 95 and 98 systems

C:\WINNT\Profiles\username on Windows NT, XP systems

C:\Documents and Settings\username on Windows 2000, XP systems

Save As -> "Save as All Files" in the drop down.

Note to Applet Users: pop up blockers will block extraction pages. Make note that either A.) Pop up blockers need to be turned off or B.) Internet Tools->Internet Options-> Privacy tab-> Settings-> add dataferrett.census.gov and/or www.thedataweb.org to your preferred sites. .

With your JAVA plug-in (JRE) installed you will always have to use your internet browser to choose the appropriate browser link to start the DataFerrett Applet:

*Note: test version (SUN Microsystems 1.3, 1.4 or 1.5)

Not sure if you have the JAVA plug-in?

1. Go into the Control Panel -> (Classic View) -> find the Java(TM) Plug-in Control Panel -> (Browser tab). Check that your browser has been checked.

2. For IE go to Tools -> Internet Options -> (Programs tab) -> Manage Add-ons and make sure java plug-in is enabled.

or

3. Go to http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp to download the latest version.

or For Firefox go to Tools > Content > make sure that "Enable Java" box is checked.
